Tosca, a recyclable packaging company, recently announced that it has RFID-tagged its recyclable transportable items (RTI), such as pallets belonging to the German retailers it serves, and is tracking them to help customers understand the movement and status of their plastic pallets during shipping, maintenance, cleaning and other processes.
The company is building passive UHF RFID tags into its own high-value assets so they can be tracked through each cycle. According to Raf Fonteyn, Tosca's technical director, the solution utilizes handheld RFID readers from Nordic ID as well as fixed readers from Kathrein Solutions. Meanwhile, the RFID project is unique because of its scale, with millions of fruit and vegetable trays and containers sent to 15 EMEA service centers, each of which goes through at least five cycles per year.
Tosca's recyclable shipping items are now RFID-tagged.
