A magnetic card is a card-like magnetic recording medium that uses magnetic carriers to record character and digital information for identification or other purposes. The magnetic card is made of high-strength, high-temperature resistant plastic or paper-coated plastic. It is moisture-proof, wear-resistant and flexible. It is easy to carry and stable and reliable. For example, the bank card we use is one of the most common magnetic stripe cards.
The magnetic stripe card consists of a plastic card and a magnetic strip attached to it. The magnetic strip has three tracks for storing information. The common used types are the loco and hico magstripe. ISO clearly defines the relevant characteristics of magnetic stripe cards, as explained below:
The magnetic card is easy to use, cheap in cost and widely used. It can be used to make credit cards, bank cards, subway cards, bus cards, ticket cards, telephone cards, electronic game cards, tickets, air tickets and various transportation fee cards. On many occasions we use magnetic cards, such as dining in the cafeteria, shopping in the mall, taking the bus, making phone calls, entering the control area, and so on.
