Car windshield labels may become transparent

Car windshield labels may become transparent

March 23, 2023

Several Internet of Things (IoT)-based antenna manufacturers are developing products that utilize a new, nearly transparent material produced by Chasm, enabling IoT or Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) sensors and tags to be applied where traditional antennas have caused visual disruption in the past, such as on car windshields.

Chasm was founded in 2015 to develop and manufacture advanced materials that enable better performance and better sustainability in products. The company builds carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into materials to provide strength, flexibility and electrical conductivity while achieving near-transparency.

For its part, Taoglas, a global provider of antennas and advanced IoT components, has introduced three invisible antenna products that are supported by Chasm's hybrid transparent conductor technology, called AgeNT. The company is currently marketing the antennas to provide connectivity to vehicles without the need for additional wiring or frame replacement. Instead, users can simply peel off the device and attach it to the windshield.
