U.S. Marine Corps also begins to apply RFID system
October 26, 2023
In the ever-evolving landscape of warehouse management, the United States Marine Corps faces unique challenges in tracking the movement of numerous goods in and out of their storage facilities. With thousands of shipments transported throughout the warehouse, keeping a close eye on their location and status has become an arduous task. To tackle this, the Marine Corps Logistics Command has embarked on an innovative initiative known as the Mobile Container Property Inventory Control (MCPIC) program, employing passive Ultra-High Frequency RFID technology to enhance their inventory management when supplying goods to their forces in need.
Recently, the logistics department has seamlessly integrated the captured RFID data with the Department of Defense's property management system, revolutionizing the way inventories are managed. This cutting-edge system utilizes a combination of Wi-Fi nodes and mobile or fixed RFID readers to capture label information in storage areas, outdoor compounds, and warehouses. Over the past two years, MCPIC has been successfully implemented across ten warehouses at the Albany Marine Corps Logistics Base in Georgia, as well as five warehouses in Barstow, California, tracking over 185,000 items and significantly improving operational efficiency in both locations.
With the Inventory Tracking RFID Label, the Marine Corps can now effortlessly maintain real-time visibility and monitoring of assets at every stage of their journey within the supply chain. Gone are the days of manual counting and time-consuming inventory checks. Through the seamless integration of cutting-edge technology, the MCPIC program has revolutionized logistics management, enabling precise tracking, efficient resource allocation, and streamlined operations.
